Waldorf Rhythm
The children experience a rhythm which becomes familiar and comforting, beginning each day at 8:30am with the warm greetings of song, story and awakening of the spirit. Our day includes well guided free play, during which time the children participate in an active, imaginative world that fills the classroom with music, creation, discussion and laughter. By providing the children with the raw materials for play, their world can become whatever their imagination/instincts suggest. Each morning the classroom is an ever-evolving artistry of human relationships. Through experiences which arise, each child has the opportunity to develop courage of action, of thought, and of feeling. It is our belief that qualities of value in adulthood will be fostered here: creative and flexible thinking, inner conviction, self-discipline, personal freedom, self-knowledge, and instinctual confidence.
Creative Play
Young children find their own learning situations in play. Many studies have demonstrated that children whose environments are encouraged through creative play show more empathy towards others, develop social skills and are able to see things from the perspective of their playmates.
Play also strengthens the imagination, which is essential for exploration, creativity and problem solving skills. Through play children are able to exercise and consolidate their ability to understand, think and to develop and strengthen their concentration. Creative play supports physical, emotional and social development and allows children to learn through investigation, exploration and discovery. It encourages children to become inventive and adaptable.
OUR PROGRAM
“Our highest endeavor must be to develop beings who are able of themselves to impart meaning and direction to their lives.” – R.S.
Learning occurs by educating and nurturing the whole child. In Waldorf teaching and my own developed understanding of children, it is believed that learning needs to occur upon the four pillars of thinking, feeling, willing, and inherent instinct.
Thinking- engaging the mental or intellectual capacities which will later be the foundation for a life-long love of learning and creativity.
Feeling- engaging the empathetic aspects of the individual who will be able to express reverence for life in all its forms.
Willing- helping the individual become self-directed and eventually a contributing member of the local and global community.
Inherent- Supporting that which is already living within every human being and fostering its development to ensure that each child feels loved in who they naturally are and therefore feel creatively free to explore their "survival instincts".
At the Little Earth Keepers, it is my endeavor to nourish the “whole child”, creating a strong foundation for them to grow and flourish.
